What colour is the future? What does it look like? Is it big or is it small? How does it smell?
Ah, the future! People haven't talked about it in the past years than they talk today.
Some people are scared of it, trying to save for 'the morrow', just in case. They're the savvy ones, telling us that we have to save for 'rainy days'. What will you do when....? is one of their questions to those who think that the future is now.
I agree that the future is now, because nobody knows how long one is going to live. One may think that one will live till old age. What if one dies unexpectedly?
I do believe in that one should try to be a bit savvy, keeping something for 'rainy days' but this shouldn't become an obsession as it will prevent them to live the here and now.
Either savvy people or jolly ones are wrong in a different way.
The very savvy ones will be so engrossed in saving that they will forget that they exist now.
The joyous ones are daring ones. On accounts of the future being uncertain, they will live happily without being a bit savvy or smart.
WHAT IT MEANS LIVING THE HERE AND NOW
It means getting engaged in a daily activity schdule. If one is working, it goes without saying that half of its day will be devoted to its job. On finishing work, time belongs to them. It will time to decide what they do with their spare time until it is time to go to bed.
If one's unemployed, which are a majority of the population on these days, the daily plan should be similar to that one of the working person -looking at job ads, replying to some of them, attending an interview when they're called up... This is quite a job. However, on finishing our job haunt, time belongs to us just as it does to anyone else.
PURSUITS THAT WILL DECIDE ON OUR FUTURE
When Mark Strand in Reasons for Moving said that "The future is always beginning now" I guess he meant it begins as soon as we start on something new.
This may be:
* Moving house or even country.
* Starting a new relationship or starting to live on one's own.
* Registering on a course that one always wanted to do.
* Developing a hobbie into a less casual activity.
There are just as many things to consider as there are people in the world. It is only a mtter of giving it a thought, but life is, in fact, short to idle and the minute we tackle on something earnestly, we are starting to model our own future life.
